Field hockey is not only becoming increasingly popular across the country, but it is also a sport that truly has everyone on the edge of their seats.
The ball speeds across the field while players watch closely, and even a tiny glint off the wet turf can determine a goal. It’s a game full of excitement with precise lighting that makes every moment count.
At AEON LED, we build lighting systems that translate those split-second reactions into visible moments. Whether you’re managing a high school field, a collegiate complex, or a professional training facility, AEON delivers the uniformity, efficiency, and visual comfort today’s field hockey standards require.
Unlike soccer or football, field hockey’s playing zone is vertical, where players look down for control, up for passing, and to the side for anticipation. That makes vertical illuminance just as critical as horizontal brightness. Without it, players lose sight of the ball in flight, and spectators lose track of the action.
The International Hockey Federation (FIH) and ANSI/IES RP-6-24 emphasize balance: high uniformity, controlled glare, and reliable color rendering. FIH recommends maintained illuminance from 200 lux for training to 500 lux for competitions, with strict uniformity ratios to avoid dark zones. AEON’s optical designs make these targets practical.

Every AEON luminaire starts with a simple goal: survive the elements and deliver consistent, professional-grade light year after year. The PRO Sports Series leads the lineup, combining 750 W and 1200 W modules that produce up to 185,700 delivered lumens. The result is bright, crisp visibility across every inch of turf without the haze or glare that older HID systems produce.
For schools and municipalities, AEON’s PNR Series delivers the same optical precision at 500 W and 750 W, ideal for practice fields and mid-level competition. Training grounds benefit from the ECO Series, compact 310 W and 500 W fixtures that deliver up to 80,000 lumens with remarkable energy efficiency of up to 170 lm/W.
Each housing is IP67-rated, meaning it’s fully sealed against dust and water, and features field-changeable modules, lenses, and drivers. That’s crucial for facilities managing maintenance on tight budgets: when one component reaches end-of-life, it’s a quick swap, not a full replacement.
AEON doesn’t believe in “spray and pray” illumination. Our fixtures use NEMA 2 through 6 distributions to deliver light exactly where it’s needed: on the playing surface and in players’ sightlines. The optics maintain a Unified Glare Rating (UGR) below 19, so athletes can track high-speed passes without squinting and goalkeepers can spot incoming shots against bright turf reflections.
Color rendering is equally important. With CRI > 85, field hockey’s white ball and colorful uniforms stay vibrant for players, officials, and high-definition cameras. The system’s flicker-free drivers make slow-motion replays smooth and shadow-free, a must for televised tournaments and livestreamed college games.

Lighting doesn’t stop with hardware; it’s about control. AEON’s HyLink wireless system gives managers command over every light on the field. It’s a secure, encrypted mesh network that operates with or without an internet connection. Programs can schedule “game,” “practice,” and “clean-up” scenes automatically, dimming to 50% for training or to 25% after curfew.
For field hockey programs that share venues with soccer or lacrosse, HyLink makes changeovers simple: select a new lighting scene from a tablet or control room, and the field adjusts instantly. The system logs energy use, supports motion and daylight sensors, and can integrate with campus-wide automation systems, reducing operating costs as efficiently as it reduces glare.
Field hockey requires precise aiming, and AEON helps by providing detailed photometric layouts and aiming diagrams that meet FIH and IES standards. Typically, four to eight poles are strategically placed around the 91.4 m by 55 m pitch to ensure even lighting and avoid run-off zones.
Our installation guidance stresses proper torqueing, tilt locking, and field verification after commissioning. Once the lights are aimed, you’ll have the documentation to satisfy both engineering review and final inspection proof that your field meets design intent in practice, not just on paper.
From the first whistle to the final shot, AEON LED transforms speed into a spectacle. Players see the ball clearly, goalkeepers react quicker, and spectators enjoy sharper contrast and richer colors without distracting glare. Coaches notice fewer lighting complaints, maintenance crews face fewer service calls, and administrators benefit from lower electric bills.
It’s not just better lighting; it’s a better experience for everyone on and around the field. AEON’s combination of high-efficiency LEDs, IP67 durability, modular design, UGR < 19 optics, and HyLink control delivers a solution that’s both technically sound and financially smart.
Whether you manage a high school field, a collegiate training complex, or a professional arena, AEON’s field hockey lighting systems are engineered to meet international standards and local expectations alike.
